Residents of Cochise County with non-felony warrants have a new opportunity to address their legal issues while accessing health resources. A Justice and Care Collective event is scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Cochise County Health & Social Services in Bisbee. According to an announcement made by Cochise County, the event aims to enhance public safety by providing a means for these individuals to take responsibility and move past their legal entanglements without overloading the judicial system.
Barbara Lang, Cochise County Health Director, in a statement obtained by Cochise County, emphasized the initiative's multi-faceted approach. "This initiative reflects our commitment to accountability and efficiency, and access to human services," said Lang. Allowing those with warrants to quash them and simultaneously connect with health and support services, the event is designed to unclog the courts and keep them focused on more severe crimes, reinforcing community safety.
The services being offered at the event range from quashing non-felony warrants to routine medical screenings and referral to sober living facilities. These services are brought together under one roof to facilitate easier access for participants. Providers such as Community Bridges, Inc., HOPE, Inc., and others will be present to assist residents.
Residents looking to take advantage of these services can look forward to free Narcan distribution and STI/HIV testing, among other offerings. Transportation assistance is available for those who need it, which can be arranged by calling 520-485-9698, ensuring attendees can access the event with minimal barriers.
