As the dust settles from the latest Powerball frenzy, seven Colorado residents are celebrating their sizeable wins. According to 9NEWS, these tickets ranged from $50,000 to a whopping $1 million, adding a silver lining for the state, given that the historic $1.787 billion jackpot was won elsewhere.
In a game where the odds are infamously stacked against you, the fortunate individuals from Colorado managed to snag smaller yet substantial prizes. KDVR reports that the $1-million-winning ticket found its home at a gas station in Colorado Springs, with several other tickets sold across the Denver metro area. Despite no one in the state taking home the big prize, which will be split between two winners in Texas and Missouri, the smaller winnings are not to be taken lightly.
Breaking down the wins, The Denver Post sheds light on the game’s structure, noting Powerball's deliberately improbable odds of 1 in 292.2 million, a structure designed to cultivate substantial jackpots. It's been since May 31st that someone last matched all six numbers, resulting in the second-largest jackpot in U.S. history. This win comes after a lengthy stretch of 41 drawings without a jackpot victor.
