Coon Rapids is taking a proactive step in child safety by offering a "Home Alone Safety Class" designed for kids ages 8 to 12, the Coon Rapids Police Department announced recently. The instruction aims to equip youngsters with the necessary skills to stay safe and act responsibly while unsupervised at home. Covering a range of practical topics like fire prevention and basic first aid, it's a one-day crash course in personal safety.
The class, scheduled for October 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will take place at the Coon Rapids Civic Center, located at 11155 Robinson Drive. With only 30 spots available, the $25 fee for the session also includes lessons on kitchen and internet safety, key components for today’s tech-savvy youth navigating the digital world alone. Handling everyday situations safely is a core objective of the program, developed for children facing short periods of solitary time at home.
Parents interested in enrolling their kids can find more information and register for the class by visiting the City of Coon Rapids website. According to the official release by the police department, the class is held several times a year, making it accessible to families who might miss this upcoming session. Ensuring children's safety is a communal effort, and this initiative underscores the importance the city places on their well-being.
