The Dallas Police Department has recently welcomed Academy Class 408, one of the largest cohorts of officer trainees in their history, featuring a significant number of female recruits. The class includes 77 trainees, 20 of whom are women, making it the second-highest count of female recruits for any class thus far, according to the City of Dallas. The department has also reiterated its commitment to mirror the communities it serves.
In what has been described as the second-largest class ever assembled by Dallas Police, Class 368 in 2019 still holds the record with 82 trainees. The current class sports a strong military presence with six former U.S. Marines and four former members of the U.S. Army, who are expected to infuse the force with respected discipline and leadership skills. "I am proud of the department’s efforts to attract recruits that represent a cross section of the community,” said Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert, per the City of Dallas. The department is strongly moving to meet its hiring targets, with this year's figures cited to be marking progress.
The police force's leadership has expressed confidence in the recruits. They recognize these individuals as the next generation committed to protecting and serving the Dallas community, with a training journey lasting ten months ahead of them. This confidence is echoed by Dallas Police Chief Daniel C. Comeaux, who praised the team's effort in exceeding their hiring goal and the incoming recruits' collective desire to make Dallas a safer city.
Additionally, the department celebrates its hiring progress, quoting this fiscal year's hiring stats to total at 329 applicants, which includes eight officers rehired after tenure with other agencies. The Dallas Police Department continues to reinforce its ranks, aiming to spread its vision of dedicated community service across one of the nation's largest cities. For future updates on Academy Class 408 and department initiatives, members of the public are invited to follow the developments as they occur.
