Local philanthropist and emeritus financial whiz David Lord is on the roster to receive the Spirit of Colorado Springs Lifetime Achievement Award this Thursday. According to the City of Colorado Springs, the award will be served up by Mayor Yemi during the State of the City shindig at The Broadmoor. Touted for his "impressive philanthropy and community advocacy," it seems Lord has had his fingers in just about every pie that's aimed to lift the local community.
Rolling in at the ripe age of 80, Lord has clocked in time as a business manager at Rollins College in sunny Florida before taking his talents to Colorado College. "David Lord has used his professional experience in finance and education to become an impressive philanthropist and community advocate," Mayor Yemi stated, as per City of Colorado Springs, seemingly in awe of Lord's resume that spans multiple sectors. Not one to slink into the shadows post-retirement, Lord dove headfirst into community trenches, particularly those zigzagging through the realms of housing, education, and senior affairs.
The community heavyweight co-created the Innovations in Aging Collaborative and hasn’t shied away from the trenches, actively serving on the board of Silver Key Senior Services. When it comes to Lord's community chest of achievements, Howard Black, a board member at Silver Key, told the City of Colorado Springs, "Every time I turn around, I’m hearing that he’s involved in another initiative." His infatuation with the community and the senior mission is evidently a contagion that's spread his influence far and wide around the Springs.
