DeKalb County seniors are reminded that the clock is ticking on a program aimed to safely remove threatening trees from their property, as the deadline to apply nears. According to both FOX 5 Atlanta and On Common Ground News, DeKalb seniors have until the close of business on Friday, to turn in their pre-application for the tree removal service.
The program is open exclusively to homeowners within DeKalb County who are aged 62 years or older, use the property as their primary residence, and meet income restrictions. As we begin to see, ensuring one's safety during periods of natural turmoil often comes down not just to city regulations but to preventative measures taken by individuals. To be eligible, a homeowner's total household income must not exceed 60 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI) as defined by federal guidelines, a threshold set for a family of four at $68,520.
In order to apply, residents can obtain a pre-application card via multiple avenues. They can visit the office located at 178 Sams St., Suite A3500, Decatur, 30030, go online to the official county website, or simply make a call to 404.371.2693 between the weekday hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The pre-application card must be completed and returned by mail or directly to the aforementioned address.
With the final date swiftly approaching, senior citizens in DeKalb County must act quickly to capitalize on this opportunity. The program's design isn't just to alleviate the immediate dangers posed by potentially harmful trees but also to serve as a reminder that maintaining the integrity of one's dwelling often requires institutions to intervene with support for those who may not have the means to do so themselves.
