Dublin residents and visitors looking forward to a new shared-use path along Riverside Drive have reason to mark their calendars. The city of Dublin announced that the construction of an 880-foot path designed for pedestrians, runners, and cyclists is making headway.
The latest step in the development came on Sept. 10 when a substantial, 130-foot pedestrian bridge was put into place. Weighing over 51,000 pounds, the bridge claims the title of the city’s second largest, outdone only by The Dublin Link. “Once the guardrails are in place, the bridge will be ready for walkers, runners and cyclists to enjoy!” according to the City of Dublin's news release.
But before the final stretch can be enjoyed without hindrance, some traffic adjustments will need to be navigated. Beginning Sept. 29 and ongoing until Sept. 19, the southbound right lane of Riverside Drive will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This closure, stretching from the driveway of the Dublin Arts Council to Emerald Parkway, is necessary for the construction of new curbs, gutters, a bridge abutment, and the shared use path itself.
While the inconvenience to motorists might raise some eyebrows, the promised completion date of October 2025 indicates that clear lanes and unhindered access are just over the horizon. The city has advised that during this period, detours and alternative routes should be considered to avoid delay. Despite the interruptions, the anticipation of a new arterial vein for non-vehicular traffic has the potential to enliven the local landscape, offering a fresh conduit for both recreational and pragmatic travel alike.
