Dublin residents and visitors are about to enjoy smoother strolls and rides with the ongoing construction of a new shared-use path. Set to extend along the west side of Riverside Drive from Emerald Parkway to the Dublin Arts Council driveway, this path is part of the city's initiative to enhance outdoor accessibility for the community. The project kicked off on June 9 and has now marked a significant milestone with the installation of a 130-foot pedestrian bridge – a structure weighing over 51,000 pounds, claiming the spot as the city's second-largest pedestrian bridge.
As reported by The City of Dublin, the bridge placement occurred yesterday, and it's only a matter of time. And the installation of guardrails before the bridge opens for public use. The outdoor enthusiasts among us, the runners, the cyclists, and those who find solace in a casual walk are set to have a new venue to explore their pursuits. The southbound right lane of Riverside Drive will be under construction through Sept. 19, which includes the development of new curbs, gutters, as well as the bridge abutment.
Despite the enthusiasm for the new development, drivers in the area should be prepared for some delays and detours. The website has emphasized the importance of safety around the construction site, urging drivers to '#SlowDownDublin' and exercise caution while driving through the area impacted by the construction work. With the lane closure stretching between the Dublin Arts Council driveway and Emerald Parkway, extra time might be needed for regular commutes. However, the promise of the new path and its anticipated completion in October 2025 is a light at the end of the temporary traffic tunnel.
