Durham County's main library is setting a new Sunday schedule to provide residents with additional access to its resources. Starting October 5, locals can step into the downtown library every Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., a move anticipated to cater to the community's demand for weekend services. While the main library extends its embrace to Sunday patrons, it's worth noting the six other branches throughout the county will retain their current practice of remaining closed on the final day of the week, as reported by the Durham County Government.
The timing shift also sees the Bragtown Branch Library shaking up its routine; they are now opening Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. – Stephanie Fennell, Interim Library Director, pointed to these changes as a direct response to community needs, saying in a statement obtained by Durham County Government, "Opening Main Library’s doors for an additional day of service on Sundays and adjusting our Bragtown Branch’s hours is an excellent way for us to meet the needs of our community." She also encouraged visits for book browsing, computer use, or simply enjoying the library space.
