Authorities in east Bexar County encountered more than just an expired registration during a routine traffic stop on Monday afternoon. A Bexar County Sheriff's Deputy, while patrolling, pulled over a 2017 Nissan Titan around 1:30 p.m. due to its lapsed paperwork. During the stop, the driver, identified as Ramiro Torres-Huato, was found to quickly not possess a valid driver's license, prompting further inspection. A subsequent search by deputies and a K-9 unit, which alerted them to the potential presence of narcotics, uncovered six kilograms of methamphetamine, according to details provided by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office disclosed in a Facebook post that a large white trash bag was found on the front passenger floorboard. Hidden within were six clear gallon-sized bags "containing a crystal-like substance." This substance was confirmed to be methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of approximately $200,000. Torres-Huato was taken into custody and, according to the Sheriff's Office, "declined to cooperate during questioning," as mentioned on KSAT.
The incident has led to Torres-Huato facing federal charges for possession with intent to distribute over five kilograms of methamphetamine. Local news outlet KENS 5 reported that the suspect was non-cooperative during the post-arrest questioning.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is using this incident to urge anyone with information about illegal drug activity to come forward. Tips can be sent to [email protected] and can remain anonymous.
