Welcome week at El Paso Community College (EPCC) closed with a flourish, capped off by a First-Year Experience (FYE) Open House. Aimed at greeting newcomers with a hearty start, the FYE program showcased a diverse set of speakers from both the college and El Paso community, noting its dedicated commitment to holistic academic coaching and advising for students navigating their initial college year.
During the presentation, which was also live-streamed to four satellite campuses, students heard from representatives of the El Paso Police Department, El Paso Fire Department, and EPCC's Nursing program, among others. According to the El Paso Community College news release, Sandra Lujan, Program Director for FYE, pitched the program as a robust resource for support, guidance, and a successful transition to college life. She mentioned that students have access to advisors, peer and faculty coaches, and an array of academic resources designed to aid their college journey.
Beyond the directory of first-responder services, other disciplines like Engineering, Biology, Speech Communication, Surgical Technology, and the Law Enforcement Training Academy got their fair share of limelight, too. The program, now in its fifth year, appears to be a touchstone for student integration and success.
