The El Paso County Sheriff's Office recently made an arrest that brought into custody one man wanted on multiple assault charges, while his sister now faces charges for allegedly thwarting law enforcement's efforts. 33-year-old Daniel De La Pena, who was under the spotlight for an assault–family violence warrant in Texas and another assault case in California, was apprehended on Tuesday, as indicated in a social media post by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte.
During the investigation, detectives zoned in on a residence in the 14500 block of Encantado Dr, where De La Pena was suspected to be hiding. On-site, they encountered 28-year-old Esperanza Mondragon, who confirmed her relation as De La Pena's sister and, despite being notified of his warrants, denied his presence in the house. The intervention didn't halt there; a search warrant came into play, and the hunt concluded with De La Pena's capture.
It was revealed that De La Pena faces several charges, including seven traffic warrants with bonds amounting to $1,181, a local Assault–Family Violence warrant set at $1,000, and an impending extradition to California related to another assault charge. Meanwhile, Mondragon landed in legal trouble herself, charged with Hindering Apprehension of a Wanted Person and Interference with Public Duties; her total bond is pegged at $2,000. Both De La Pena and Mondragon were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility following these events.
