Residents and visitors to Gatlinburg will need to plan around a road closure set for the coming weeks. According to an announcement from the Gatlinburg Police Department, Cherokee Orchard Road is facing an imminent closure due to necessary emergency slope repairs slated to begin on September 22. A portion of the 500 block of this road has suffered a slope failure, prompting immediate action.
Travelers who frequent this route should note that the closure will be between the intersection with Baskins Creek Road and the intersection of Cherokee Orchard Road and East Holly Ridge Road/Circle Drive. Local officials have determined that this repair cannot wait, as the structural integrity of the slope poses potential safety risks. The Gatlinburg Police Department's social media post states the road will be fully inaccessible to traffic for approximately two weeks.
Blalock Construction has been awarded the emergency repair contract and will be handling the project. While road closures often come with their share of inconveniences and detours, the city urges residents and visitors to comply for their safety and to ensure that repairs can be completed swiftly and effectively. Gatlinburg authorities recommend that those who live, work, or plan to visit the area during this time period should stay apprised of updates and alternate routes.
