After a brief stint of freedom, James Howell's attempt to evade the confines of the law came to an abrupt end yesterday morning. The inmate who had absently strolled away from the Northeast Oklahoma Community Correction Center on Friday night was apprehended, bringing closure to the multi-day search. Howell, identified as a 33-year-old Native American male by KFOR, had been convicted for false declaration of ownership in a pawn shop case.
The Oklahoma Department of Corrections had issued an immediate alert after Howell vanished from the Vinita facility shortly after 9 p.m., as reported by News9. There was a certain tension, as the authorities urged the public not to approach Howell should they encounter him, but instead, to contact emergency services. His description was widely disseminated: a man standing 5’8” tall, weighing 165 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
The search ended when the Vinita Police Department successfully located and captured Howell at 8:03 a.m. yesterday, as confirmed by FOX23. The details of his capture and the circumstances leading up to it have not been disclosed.
