The Fairfield Fire Department has been at the forefront of battling blazes along Highway 12, as reported by official statements. Over two consecutive days, the department dealt with three separate vegetation fires, necessitating a regional response involving multiple agencies.
Last Saturday, the department responded to a fire near Ledgewood Creek that crossed Highway 12, causing a closure of the road and precautionary evacuations along James Street. During the response, one firefighter was injured and had to be taken to a local medical facility. Crews from adjacent departments, Medic Ambulance for medical emergencies, and the Fairfield Police Department for evacuations and traffic control provided support throughout the incidents.
The next day saw even more activity, with the first of two fires reported at 3:38 p.m., burning an estimated 15 acres and affecting PG&E utility poles. Thankfully, no structures were reported lost during this incident, but the damage to infrastructure required overnight work from PG&E crews. Later, while monitoring the first fire's perimeter, Fairfield units encountered a third fire, originating in the Suisun Fire Protection District, which took command.
