The Federal Bureau of Investigation's San Diego Field Office is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that could lead to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the suspects responsible for assaulting and robbing four hikers near the U.S./Mexico border, an incident that left one individual wounded, the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced.

This violent occurrence took place on Wednesday, January 22, around 10:37 AM, when two unidentified Hispanic males reportedly fired shots at the group of hikers, striking and injuring one before forcibly taking their belongings while armed. The assailants were last seen heading southwest towards the proximity of the international border, the FBI said. In a recent statement, Special Agent in Charge Mark Dargis emphasized the commitment of the FBI and partnered law enforcement to the case, asserting, "The FBI will not stop until we find the individuals responsible for this violent crime on these innocent hikers," and highlighting the agency's determination to uphold safety and justice, as per FBI San Diego.

Those with knowledge of the suspects or the crime are encouraged to contact their local FBI office, the nearest U.S. embassy, or to submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov, with the option to provide information anonymously. Special Agent Dargis underlined the FBI's promise to utilize all available investigative resources to apprehend the responsible parties, reaffirming that "No one should ever fear being shot at and robbed at gunpoint—regardless of where they are," according to FBI San Diego.
