Last night, Boulder City's landscape was disrupted by a blaze at the Townsite solar facility, a fire that emerged with the settling dusk, necessitating urgent attention from local fire departments. According to a Boulder City Fire Department update, the incident began at approximately 7 PM, south of I-11 near US-95. Firefighters quickly descended upon the scene, the urgency palpable as they worked to contain the conflagration within the sprawling expanse of energy storage.
In the night's darkest hours, the fire escalated, reaching a second battery storage unit; this development was promptly shared in a brief statement distributed at 12:30 a.m., in which the Boulder City Fire Department disclosed, "The fire spread to a second battery storage unit, but both units are in a smoldering phase and the scene has been turned over to the company reps." Firefighting teams faced intense flames and a challenging environment but stayed determined. The Henderson Fire Department joined in a mutual aid effort to keep the blaze from spreading further.
The hours waned as the fire persisted, with officials predicting a 4 to 6-hour duration for the burn, Boulder City firefighters diligently maintained their water assault on the adjacent units, striving to stem the spread of the destructive element. Residents and onlookers were cautioned to maintain a safe distance, the area enveloping the solar facility cordoned off as a danger zone, a testament to the unpredictable nature of energy made manifest in such raw, unbridled form.
