The Flagstaff City Council is opening the floor for a community discussion on the prevalence of automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras in the city. In a meeting that took place on Tuesday, the council expressed its intent to engage with public opinion regarding these devices, which have been a fixture in Flagstaff under a contract with Flock Safety, as reported by the City of Flagstaff.
Council's decision came with a move to delay any changes to the existing agreement with the Atlanta-based company. Residents will have their say at the upcoming Council meeting scheduled for October 28, where they can address their concerns or support for the ALPR program in person or online. Those interested in joining the discussion can find details on the City of Flagstaff website about how to submit a public comment.
The contract between Flock Safety and Flagstaff will remain in effect until the Council reviews the matter following public feedback. The public discussion on ALPR cameras is scheduled for the Oct. 28 Council meeting.
