A former loss prevention worker was handed down a substantial prison sentence for sexually assaulting a woman while on duty. Daniel Cassinelli, age 46, received a total of 200 months in prison following a conviction for first-degree rape and sodomy, crimes he committed during his tenure at a Rite Aid store in the Portland area.
The proceedings took place at the Multnomah County Circuit Court where Judge Thomas Ryan delivered the sentencing, splitting it evenly between the two charges. For the first count of rape, Cassinelli is to serve 100 months, and the same term applies for the second count of sodomy. According to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, the sentences will run consecutively, ensuring a substantial period behind bars before the defendant will be eligible for release.
After the prison term, Cassinelli will face further monitoring under post-prison supervision, ensuring ongoing oversight following his time served. This part of the sentence emphasizes the severity of the crimes and the continued need to protect the community from potential future offenses.
