As football season kicks off, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) is showcasing a team spirit that gels the gridiron with the guard of law enforcement. A recent social media post from the department highlights former NFL players who have traded their cleats for a badge, celebrating the dual careers of these sportsmen-turned-officers. "It's the start of the NFL season, and while we’re cheering for the Jaguars, our favorite team is our own," the post by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reads, as it outlines their open roles for police, corrections, and civilian spots.
Among the officers named were wide receivers Officer Laveranues Coles, who played for teams including the Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Commanders, and Officer Ernest Wilford, formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Running back Officer Leon Brown, and linebacker Detective Jeff Kopp also earn mentions, alongside offensive lineman Officer Victor Salako. "Some of your #JSO officers played in the big leagues and now serve our community every day," the post by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office states, commending these sports veterans now dedicated to law enforcement.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office makes it clear, however, that prior NFL experience is not a prerequisite for joining their ranks. They're actively seeking applicants from all walks of life to join the diverse team of protectors and servers. "Don't worry, you don't have to be a pro football player to join our team," the statement ensures, highlighting their commitment to find a place for every interested candidate in their organization. With an array of open positions, JSO appears keen to diversify their lineup with individuals having various skills and backgrounds.
Emphasizing the inclusivity and equal opportunity ethos of the department, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reminds us that although the uniform changes, the essence of teamwork and community dedication remains the central tenet of both professions. "We want you to fill our open police, corrections, and civilian roles. Get in where you fit in; we promise there's a place for you here," the post confidently assures potential recruits.
