Justice has been served in a grievous case of sexual assault as the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office extended gratitude to the Fort Worth Police Department for their diligent work leading to the conviction of Joquianna Bernard. According to a social media post by the Tarrant County DA's office, Bernard was recently sentenced to 31 years after being found guilty of three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, this coming to light after the victim courageously disclosed the years of abuse to school officials.
In 2023, a minor disclosed to school officials that he had been subjected to repeated acts of sexual assault by a relative, identified as Bernard, beginning when the child was approximately six or seven years old.
Following the school’s mandated report, law enforcement initiated an investigation that confirmed a pattern of abuse. Prosecutors subsequently filed charges against Bernard, including multiple counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. The prosecution, led by Assistant District Attorneys Katherine Messina and David Tamez, with support from Investigator Lee Blaisdell and Victim Coordinator Laura Medina, pursued the case to ensure accountability through due process.
