Four Pittsburgh firefighters were hospitalized after an incident during a response to a structure fire in the city's South Side Slopes neighborhood. The firefighters were injured yesterday morning when their ladder contacted a high-voltage power line while they were combating a significant blaze on the third floor of a home on Monastery Avenue, as WPXI reported.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Davis, the incident happened around 8:11 a.m. Four firefighters were taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital and are in stable condition. While fighting the fire, the ladder they were using apparently touched a power line, making the situation more dangerous. Fortunately, no one was inside the building at the time, though belongings were found on the third floor. Davis shared this information in an interview with CBS News Pittsburgh.
The cause of the blaze remains under official investigation, with fire services working to determine the origin and circumstances of the incident.
