The City of St. Louis Park is hosting a paper shredding event on September 19 from 4 to 6 pm at the Municipal Service Center, located at 7305 Oxford St. According to a bulletin from City of St. Louis Park, the service is free for residents, but keep in mind, the offer is limited to five paper grocery bags per person.
The event is designed to assist residents in disposing of their sensitive papers in a secure way. For safety reasons, walking or biking materials into the event is not allowed. A gentle reminder: shredded paper is not accepted in recycling or organic carts in St. Louis Park. So if you've been shredding at home, you'll need to place that paper in your trash instead, or bring it to the event for shredding and recycling.
Among the materials accepted for shredding are confidential papers and paper file folders. However, not all items can be handled at the event; plastic file folders, plastic materials, large metal objects, lawn/leaf bags, plastic bags, hard drives, electronic media, ink cartridges, and toners are all turned away. For those who can't make it to the event or have more to shred than the allowed limit, options are available at a cost through companies like Shred Right in Bloomington and Shred It in Brooklyn Park. Check their websites for fees and operational hours.
Shred Right offers services Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and every Saturday until September 27, 2025. Similarly, Shred It is open for shredding Monday to Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
