In a dedicated effort to bridge the gap between education and practical experience, students from Gene Burton College and Career Academy recently stepped out of the classroom and into the heart of Rockwall County's legal system. Kenai Seda Rentas and Ysabella Buchanan visited the office of County Judge Frank New, diving into the everyday responsibilities that keep the county's wheels turning. According to a Rockwall County press release, the focus of their visit was an in-depth look at the administrative duties carried out by the office of the County Judge.
The students, aspiring law enforcement and sociology professionals, immersed themselves in discussions on resource management, public safety, and emergency management, gaining insights that textbooks may struggle to fully capture. Judge New, who also presides over the Commissioners Court responsible for policies, budgets, and tax rates, shared his experiences and challenges—an invaluable account for any student eyeing a future in the field.
The law practicum didn't end at conversation—it involved a tactile exploration of Rockwall's legal facilities. Their educational journey led them through the 3rd-floor courtroom and also to a visitation of the old county jail situated on the 4th floor of the Historic County Courthouse, as per the county's announcement.
Kenai Seda Rentas, who's set on a law enforcement career, alongside Ysabella Buchanan, who's eagerly looking forward to pursuing a master's in sociology at Sam Houston State University followed by a PhD in Forensic Psychology, both represent the caliber of students Gene Burton College and Career Academy aims to cultivate: dedicated, inquisitive, and proactive in chasing their vocational dreams. The academy, situated in Rockwall, Texas, is lauded for its commitment to forwarding education in alignment with contemporary careers, ensuring students are well-equipped for the universities and occupations that await them.
