Georgia has given a nod to one of its sweetest agricultural facets this month. In a move that salutes the Peach State's bountiful orchards, Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper declared September 2025 as “Georgia Grown Apple Month.” The announcement comes paired with the unveiling of an Official 2025 Apple Orchards Map, aimed to promote the orchards scattered throughout the state known for their luscious apple offerings.
This initiative puts the spotlight on Georgia's often overshadowed apple season which is already in full effect, despite many waiting for the fall breeze to think about apple picking. "This month, Georgia Grown is proud to showcase Georgia’s apple industry and the farm families who work tirelessly to fuel its success," said Commissioner Harper in a statement that highlights the state’s dedication to its apple producers. With the release of an interactive map, Georgia Grown invites everyone to visit these agricultural havens, engaging with the growers and understanding the effort put into the farming process.
Elijay, known colloquially as the apple capital of the state, boasts several generational family-owned orchards that represent the tradition of apple production in Georgia. According to the last USDA agricultural census, the state’s apple acreage saw a significant hike of 76%, totaling 984 acres. This vast area supports around 360,000 apple trees, with a farm gate value surpassing $10 million as of 2023. Such statistics not only reveal the economic impact of the industry but also the scope for agritourism.
Georgia Grown's recent focus on agritourism presents an opportunity for both residents and tourists to take a more hands-on approach to their food sources. The interactive map serves as a guide for those looking to engage with local agriculture and directly support the farmers. Every visit is an insight into the meticulous care and passion that shapes every Georgia Grown product. Discover more about these agritourism experiences and the map at GeorgiaGrown.com.
