It was a day dedicated to celebrating Hispanic Heritage and bolstering educational initiatives for Governor Jared Polis, who made rounds in Eagle and Garfield Counties on the Western Slope yesterday. Starting at FirstBank Fiestas in Avon, the governor embraced the vibrance of Hispanic Heritage Month, affirming, "Hispanic Heritage Month is a wonderful time to celebrate the incredible contributions of Hispanic Coloradans to our state’s rich history, as well as our bright future," a sentiment captured by the Governor's Office press release.
The governor's itinerary then brought him to Gypsum Creek Middle School in Eagle County, nestled closely to the site of an anticipated new Pre-school facility and an employee housing complex that promise to service the county needs. Attending a pep rally with the Gypsum Middle School students, Governor Polis highlighted the essence of educational engagement in Colorado, stating via the official website, "It is always a pleasure to get out on the road and meet some of our extraordinary students and educators here in Colorado, who are exceeding expectations and showing why Colorado is the best place to get an education," as he told the gathering at the school.
Continuing with his focus on education, Polis proceeded to Colorado Mountain College Spring Valley at Glenwood Springs. Here, he met with Red, White, and Blue Club members, who have dedicated themselves to pursuing civic engagement and the important task of voter registration. "I am inspired by young leaders who are making their voices heard, and encouraging classmates to get involved in our communities and government at all levels," Governor Polis enlightened the students, as referenced by his earlier statement. During the visit, the governor also commended Colorado's commitment to voting access and security.
The day's engagements didn't end with educational visits, though. Governor Polis was scheduled to show support for Stepping Stones of the Roaring Fork Valley at the Stepping Up for Youth Fundraiser. As an organization, Stepping Stones provides a breadth of services for young people, offering everything from bilingual tutoring to crisis support for roughly 400 youth across locations like Aspen and Parachute. "Stepping Stones is a great resource for Coloradans on the Western Slope to receive the extra support and resources needed to thrive," Governor Polis acknowledged the organization's contribution, which is in line with his advocacy for mentorship and community development.
