Honoring the cream of the state's public service crop, Governor Josh Green spotlighted winners of the prestigious Governor's Awards. It's an annual hat-tip to those state Executive Branch individuals, managers and teams who stand head and shoulders above the rest in their service to Hawai‘i's people. Administered by the Department of Human Resources Development, these accolades aren't handed out lightly. "This year’s honorees exemplify that spirit and we are truly honored to work alongside such dedicated individuals and teams who are changing lives every day," said Green, as reported by the Governor's Office.

Top laurels went to Kathryn Tipton, a Librarian with the Hawai‘i State Public Library System, lauded as the STATE MANAGER OF THE YEAR. The honor wasn't just handed to her; she earned it by leading from the front with initiatives like "Craft Nights" and "Lei Po‘o Nights." These aren't just fun and games, they're bridges to better connect with the Pāhoa community, infusing elements of culture and learning. The STATE EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR nod went to Marly Jane Nakamura, a Corrections Education Supervisor whose commitment to education within corrections has unleashed potential within the walls of Hālawa Correctional Facility. Engagement through programs like BrainGYM and tangible milestones like HCF's first Commencement Ceremony speaks to her influence and passion.

Shifting the spotlight to collaborative success, the STATE TEAM OF THE YEAR honor rolled out to the Med-QUEST Program and Policy Development Office of the Department of Human Services. With only nine members, this team's reach has been exponential, from shaping the nation's first community palliative care service to renewing vital waivers for justice-involved populations. Their agenda is broad, significant, and impactful, affecting healthcare access and the quality of Medicaid services with creative, innovative strategies.
