Green Snoqualmie Day returns on October 4, featuring a new Climate Change Adaptation Demonstration Forest. From 9 a.m. to noon on Park Street, volunteers will help plant trees and shrubs designed to strengthen the city’s urban forest against the effects of climate change.
Organizers encourage volunteers to come prepared for outdoor work, wearing weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy closed-toe shoes, as the event will proceed rain or shine. Participants will be provided with coffee, water, and a mid-morning snack, with pizza served after the planting. To help reduce waste, attendees are asked to bring their own refillable coffee mugs and water bottles.
The day doesn't end there. For those seeking to expand their green thumb expertise, a Riverwalk Fruit Tree Pruning workshop follows from 1 to 4 pm. According to an announcement on Snoqualmie's official website, Steve Gaber from NW Fruit and the city's Urban Forestry team will lead hands-on training on summer and winter pruning to maintain fruit tree productivity and health. The workshop is conveniently located near the planting site, at the city's community orchard.
All ages and abilities are welcomed to join in on Green Snoqualmie Day's activities. Parking is available at the east end of the work site, with signage to usher you in the right direction. For further details on registration and directions, would-be volunteers and tree hobbyists can visit the event page listed on the city's website.
