In Westmoreland County, a father is now facing legal repercussions after his young child was involved in a traffic incident earlier this summer. Andre Stanford Jr., 42, from Greensburg, has been charged with endangering the welfare of children and obstruction, according to authorities. The events transpired on July 24th, as Stanford was walking on New Alexandria Road with four children.
Around 2:30 p.m., the group attempted to cross the road, and in a momentary lapse, the 4-year-old boy ran out onto the road and was struck by a car. This information was detailed in a report by CBS News Pittsburgh, which noted that Stanford was walking ahead of the children at the time, not directly supervising them.
The collision left the child with serious injuries, including a broken left femur and a gash on his forehead. Instead of immediately seeking professional medical help at the scene, Stanford reportedly carried his child home before summoning emergency services. A release cited by WPXI mentioned neither police nor emergency medical services were contacted at the location of the accident.
It was only once they arrived back at their residence that an ambulance was called, and the child was subsequently flown to UPMC Children's Hospital for treatment. The child's injuries were severe but not life-threatening; he sustained "brush burn" on his back and right arm as well.
