A high-speed police chase in west Harris County culminated in a series of crashes, shots fired by deputies, and ultimately the hospitalization of three deputies and the arrest of a suspect driving a box truck. The chase ensued after Precinct 5 deputies attempted a routine stop near the Katy Freeway at Brittmoore Road at approximately 4:04 p.m. on Thursday, with the truck eventually coming to a dead-end at the Georgetown Apartments on 13192 Trail Hollow, where it rammed into deputy vehicles and a carport, as reported by ABC13.

According to Click2Houston, the suspect, who had multiple felony warrants, initially fled when deputies tried to detain him after a license plate camera indicated the box truck had been leveraging the toll road without payment, the situation escalated when the box truck engaged several patrol cars in reverse and the deputies responded, fearing for their safety, opening fire on the truck, none of the shots hit the suspect.

Residents of the complex witnessed the ensuing chaos, as one bystander, Roy Gonzales, described hearing five gunshots and watching the suspect's desperate attempt to escape through the complex's infrastructure, "He then backed in, hit another cop car, then drove through the carport, through the fence, through the trash cans, ended up realizing that he got stuck in a walkway that even a vehicle can't get through," Gonzales told Click2Houston.

The pursuit ultimately ended when the suspect fled on foot after crashing, taking refuge in a resident's apartment the tenant alerted authorities after discovering the intruder, who had inflicted minor self-harm with a knife obtained from the kitchen; according to ABC13, the suspect was later detained and hospitalized with minor self-inflicted injuries but is expected to recover, the three deputies involved sustained minor cuts and scrapes and were all hospitalized for treatment.

Houston Police Department K9s were deployed to assist the situation and an extensive review of evidence by investigators is underway, with Houston Police Department's homicide division leading the inquiry into the deputy-involved shooting, the suspect's identity has not yet been disclosed, but an extensive criminal background and at least two outstanding felony warrants have been confirmed.
