Residents in Houston and southeast Texas are on alert as dry weather raises fire risks. CW39 meteorologist Allison Gutleber identified three areas with the highest wildfire risk. Houston is included but is not the most at-risk location. Viewers can see Gutleber’s full report for details and safety tips.
Dry and sunny weather with low humidity and high temperatures is keeping fire risks high in Houston through the start of the week. Spotty rain later in the week is not expected to reduce the risk. Officials advise residents to avoid outdoor burning, delay yard work with machinery, and dispose of cigarettes properly, as reported by Houston Chronicle.
Bush Intercontinental Airport recorded 1.21 inches of rain in September, and Hobby Airport recorded 1.67 inches, making it one of the driest Septembers on record. Abnormally dry conditions are present from the Sabine River to Interstate 45, with moderate drought possible in parts of Southeast Texas. Humidity and dew points are expected to rise by the end of the week, with isolated showers mainly near and south of Interstate 10, while most of the Houston area will remain dry into the weekend, as mentioned by Houston Chronicle.
