A fire damaged Mr. Soy Sauce Chinese Restaurant in Houston’s Greenspoint neighborhood on Saturday. Click2Houston reported that the fire started inside the walls around noon and took several hours for the Houston Fire Department to control. About 60 to 70 firefighters responded, rotating crews because of heavy smoke. Deputy Chief D. Harrison said, “there was so much smoke, you couldn’t see 10 feet out here.” A firefighter and crew were briefly lost in the smoke but were later located safely.
The fire damaged the restaurant, causing the roof to collapse and leaving the parking lot filled with debris. Fire crews worked to put out the flames as witnesses and regular customers watched. Ryland Lanson told Click2Houston, “I just hope they rebuild because a lot of us who live in this area would probably say this is one of the best Chinese food restaurants you can come to.”
FOX 26 Houston stated that the restaurant was closed and empty when the fire began, and no injuries occurred. Crews first battled the flames from outside because of heavy smoke but managed to put out the fire in about two hours. The Houston Fire Department is still investigating the cause.
