On Labor Day weekend, as temperatures reached the triple digits, many people went to the Salt River to cool off and spend the day tubing. With a forecast of up to 110°, hundreds of visitors gathered at the river to escape the heat, as reported by Yahoo News.
Residents prepared for the extreme heat over the weekend by bringing plenty of supplies to stay safe outdoors. Sarah Picard expressed confidence in handling the conditions, saying, “I’ve seen 118°, so I am good!” She explained that her group came ready with drinks, noting, "We have electrolytes, Gatorade, and a 24-pack of water." Similarly, Dominic Giuditta shared that he brought a large supply of bottled water for his group, saying, “We’re going to stay hydrated, go tube and have a good time,” according to ABC15.
Matt Sass, Salt River Tubing Supervisor, advised visitors to stay safe in the heat by drinking water — “We recommend one water an hour” — reapplying sunblock, wearing closed-toe shoes, and using life jackets. Isaac Smith from the National Weather Service said “we’re currently ranked 4th hottest summer overall for average temperatures” and noted that while monsoon season ends on September 30, storms are still possible, with warmer and drier conditions expected into September, as mentioned by ABC15.
