A portion of Interstate 75 was temporarily closed but has since reopened following a collision where a dump truck struck an overpass. Per a report from WFTV, the incident, which occurred early this morning around 2:30 a.m., involved the bed of the dump truck being left in the raised position, leading to it striking the County Road 320 overpass in Micanopy, as the truck traveled southbound along I-75.
All southbound traffic was diverted off at Exit 374 following the crash. Motorists were originally to take CR-234 and use Highway 441 as a detour. The Marion County Sheriff's Office warned of potential delays in the area due to the rerouting of traffic. Eventually, troopers were able to partially reopen I-75 by utilizing the shoulder while repair work continued on the bridge.
According to WESH, no injuries have been reported in connection with the accident, and the driver of the dump truck, a 55-year-old man from Ocala, Florida, emerged unscathed. The reopening of all southbound lanes of I-75 was confirmed, but the County Road 320 overpass itself remains closed until assessments can be completed to guarantee its structural integrity.
