The criminal justice system has contributed yet another chapter to the ongoing saga of Jalonie Porter, who will continue to see the inside of a state hospital room for at least another year. Back in 2013, Porter was handed down a sentence for assault with a deadly weapon, with a subsequent enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on the victim. According to reports from that time, the victim suffered severe cuts to her face and fingers as she tried to defend herself against Porter's knife attack.
In 2017, the Department of State Hospitals deemed Porter to be an offender troubled by a mental disorder, which led to eventually transferring him out of the standard penitentiary system. Fast forward to the tail end of 2024, the District Attorney's Office sought and successfully convinced a jury to extend Porter's hospitalization, which was set to end on April 30, 2025. This recent development was documented exhaustively by the Sacramento District Attorney's Office on their website, following the jury verdict on September 18, 2025.
The jury unanimously agreed that Porter’s mental health is still unstable and that he remains a risk to others. As a result, the Department of State Hospitals will keep Porter in its care for another year, keeping him out of the general prison population.
