The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office took to social media to herald the success of their investigators and forensics personnel who were honored at the Metropolitan Crime Commission of New Orleans Excellence in Law Enforcement Awards Luncheon. The dedicated team was recognized for their pivotal roles in the arrest and conviction of Sean Barrette, the man responsible for a deadly shooting spree in East Jefferson in 2019. According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office Facebook post, Barrette was found guilty in June 2025 after a series of events that claimed the lives of three men.
Among the individuals commended for their contributions to the case, Det. Harold Wischan was lauded as the lead detective, alongside Stephen Villere of the Digital Forensic Unit, Timothy Scanlan, who was Deputy Chief of Technical Services, and Jené Rauch, Supervisor of the Firearms Analysis Section, during the investigation. Their concerted efforts were key to securing a verdict in a case that took years to close. Despite firing at vehicles for over two weeks, Barrette's actions came to an end thanks to the relentless pursuit of the JPSO team.
The post made by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office declared, "The dedication, expertise, and teamwork of our personnel exemplify the best of law enforcement and their commitment to keeping our community safe." These remarks underscore the significance of the collaborative work that went into both apprehending Barrette and piecing together the evidence required for a successful prosecution.
