Time to lace up the sneakers and join the game—Mesa's Youth Flag Football program is calling. If you've got young ones itching to dive into the sport, you're in luck because spots are still open for the upcoming season. Registrations are available for the co-ed and girls leagues, alongside a Kinder Clinic catered to the littlest athletes, ages 5 and 6. Mesa's recreation department dropped the news, so attention, sports families: the clock's ticking, and now's the time to sign up.
According to a recent announcement by the City of Mesa, the Flag Football Kinder Clinic is set to begin on Sept. 12. It aims to quickly introduce young ones to the basics of the game in a supportive and engaging environment. But that's just the start, because shortly after, the Co-Ed League for those aged 7-14 will officially kick off on Sept. 15, with the Girls League for ages 8-12 trailing behind, starting on Oct. 2. Each program is designed to not just teach the sport but to foster a sense of community and personal growth for each child involved.
For those concerned about the cost, Mesa's keeping it affordable, with co-ed and girls league fees set at $90 for residents and $105 for non-residents. The Kinder Clinic comes in even lower at $75 for Mesa residents and $90 for non-residents. There's financial aid too with scholarships and discounts of up to 50% on the table. As Mesa Now reports, Mesa Recreation Coordinator Augie Perez said, "Flag football is growing quickly and now being offered at the high school level. We launched our girls' league last year and it was a huge success-players learned the game, built confidence and had a lot of fun." It's clear that Mesa is banking not just on the skills but also on the positive impact the program has had thus far.
Benefits of the program span further than the field, with participants receiving official NFL Flag jerseys, flag belts, and ample time for both games and practices. Plus, parents can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that all coaches have to go through a background check and receive training through the city's Positive Coaching Alliance partnership. Support doesn't stop there, as dedicated City of Mesa recreation staff will be available, ensuring things run smoothly. Fans and families can also keep track of what's happening with access to the City's Team Sideline site, where they'll find league standings, schedules, and contact information all in one place.
In the words of one parent, quoted by Mesa Now, this program is "the most organized league we've played in." If you want to be part of this experience, you'd better move quickly to register through Mesa Parks and Recreation's Fall PLAYBOOK Magazine or by shooting an email to [email protected].
