On Monday, a stolen vehicle pursuit involving three juveniles drew multiple law enforcement agencies across San Diego County. According to a social media post from the City of Coronado Police Department, the incident began with a Flock Safety camera alerting officers to a green Toyota Prius, confirmed as stolen, near Glorietta Boulevard and Mullinix Drive.
The Prius was detected at Tidelands Park, which initiated a police response. When officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, the young suspects instead led them on a high-speed escapade, maneuvering onto Coronado Bridge and into San Diego's jurisdiction. The pursuit seamlessly transitioned from local streets to a freeway chase.
San Diego County Sheriff's ASTREA helicopter entered the fray, providing a birds-eye view over the rapidly evolving situation. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) stepped in, taking the lead as the chase hit I-15. Their expertise came to the forefront when they executed a precise Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver at Old Highway and Lilac Avenue, ending the pursuit safely.
All vehicle occupants—juveniles whose ages have not been disclosed—were apprehended without incident. Further investigation revealed the vehicle's origins, revealing it to have been reported stolen from the City of Vista. Moreover, the same vehicle had been involved in a comparable incident earlier that day in North County.
