The City of Kannapolis is channeling philanthropy into action, allocating $116,000 to various community organizations that serve low- and moderate-income residents. This decision by the Kannapolis City Council targets the funds for the 2025-2026 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) period, buttressing programs ranging from youth activities to transitional housing, as reported by the City of Kannapolis' recent announcement.
Among the beneficiaries, AYA House, Inc. has received $30,000, bolstering its efforts to provide transitional housing. Initiatives supporting mental health for children, also, are not left behind, with Big Brothers Big Sisters securing $5,000 to focus on enhancing youth mental health strategies. Designed for low- and moderate-income residents, these grants are intended to improve the living standards and future prospects of Kannapolis's less fortunate.
The funds, originating from the federal Community Development Block Grant Program, have been meticulously reviewed by the Kannapolis Community Improvement Commission and city staff, before recommending to the City Council the deserving recipients for this year. Alongside the aforementioned groups, other organizations such as Cabarrus County Partnership for Children and Cabarrus Health Alliance are allocated $5,000 each for public safety services and uninsured children's dental care, respectively.
The funding also extends to the Cabarrus Rowan Community Health with a $10,000 grant for adult dental services catering to the uninsured or low-income bracket. Moreover, the realm of education witnesses support through Classroom Central which receives $5,000 to provide free school supplies to the teachers of Kannapolis City School. Several other organizations targeted include Elder Orphan Care for aiding adults over 60, Families First to support under-resourced childcare, and a host of others, all playing a critical role in the fabric of community support structures.
In total, these funds will touch upon various sectors - from housing to healthcare, education to public safety, indicating the City of Kannapolis's endeavor to forge a community where economic hardship does not preclude access to basic needs and services.
