The Laredo Sector Border Patrol is looking beyond its usual realm of operations, launching an initiative to honor academic prowess among high school seniors in the Laredo area. The Youth of the Month program for the 2025-2026 school year kicked off with a ceremony at John B. Alexander High School, where 11 deserving students received accolades for their exceptional school achievements.
During the ceremony, Charles E. Clough, the Patrol Agent in Charge of Laredo South Station, took the stage among a crowd of peers and educators. In a statement obtained by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection newsroom, Clough underscored the significance of the award, remarking, It is essential for students to reflect on the value of community and the principles that will guide them in life. Despite the program entering its 39th year, the dedication to fostering and recognizing scholastic dedication never wanes.
This educational endeavor by the Border Patrol aims to fortify the relationship between law enforcement and the community, endorsing the idea that excellence in education contributes to a stronger societal fabric. It's not every day that one sees a federal law enforcement agency take such an active role in promoting academic achievement, indicating a commitment to investing in the region's youth and potential leaders of tomorrow.
Honoring one student per month, each chosen from a pool of the area's high schools, the program promises to highlight the cream of the academic crop. "The Youth of the Month award and the exceptional academic dedication required to earn this prestigious honor," said Clough as per CBP.
