Commercial fishers targeting Greater Amberjack in Louisiana waters are under an emergency closure beginning at 12:01 a.m. today.
The closure follows federal regulations from NOAA Fisheries, which announced a closure in federal waters starting at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday last week, after projections showed the annual commercial catch target of 93,930 pounds would be met, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF).
After the closure, no one may commercially harvest, possess, purchase, barter, trade, or sell Greater Amberjack, except for fish legally taken before the closure with proper records maintained by commercial dealers. The recreational Greater Amberjack season remains open through October 31.
