On September 27th, a structure fire erupted at 1218 S Menlo Ave, in the Pico-Union neighborhood, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). According to the LAFD alert, flames were visible from the roof of an abandoned two-story building formerly used as a school, a location previously struck by fire.
The LAFD deployed multiple resources, including Fire Stations 13 and Batt 11, to tackle the blaze which drew a sizable emergency response. Notably, this was not the first encounter with fire for this particular structure, hinting at a concerning pattern of incidents, the intensity of response underscored by the team's equipment listed as BC1 BC11 E10 E11 E13 E15 E210 E211 E215 E226 E26 EM1 HM21 RA11 RA26 T10 T11 T15 T26 in LAFD's report; the urgency in the air resonated with the determined echo of sirens.
A commendable effort by about 50 firefighters led to a swift and efficient resolution of the emergency, as they managed to achieve 'knockdown' in just 18 minutes, as detailed in a follow-up LAFD alert. The team's rapid action confined and extinguished the fire, fortunately without any injuries reported. Their coordinated approach encompassed both confinement and suppression of the fiery adversary within the forlorn walls of the deserted edifice.
While the blaze was put out efficiently, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters remained onsite to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the area was safe.
