The Powerball jackpot, which had been growing since the end of May, has been won. Two ticket holders, one in Missouri and the other in Texas, will share the $1.787 billion prize, according to WTSP. After 42 consecutive draws without a grand prize winner, the jackpot became the second-largest in U.S. lottery history, behind last year’s $2.04 billion.
The winning numbers were 11, 23, 44, 61, 62 and Powerball 17. Each winner can choose between an annuitized payout of about $893.5 million or a cash option of about $410.30 million. The cash option increased from the initially estimated $826.4 million due to higher ticket sales. Powerball’s odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, according to FOX13.
WFLA reports that more than 9.9 million other tickets won smaller prizes in yesterday’s draw. This included a $1 million ticket sold in New Port Richey, Florida, and 20 other tickets worth at least $1 million each in several states. Powerball stated there were 101 tickets worth $1 million or more and over a thousand tickets worth $50,000 or more. Tickets in Kansas and Texas using the Power Play option doubled their winnings to $2 million each.
The jackpot has reset to $20 million for tomorrow’s draw, with tickets priced at $2.
