An early morning apartment fire in Northeast El Paso has tragically resulted in the death of a man in his 60s, as fire crews faced the blaze head-on at Las Puertas Abiertas Apartments. The incident, occurring just off McCombs near Dyer Street, saw the El Paso Fire Department receiving the alarm shortly before 4 a.m. on Wednesday, KTSM reports.
Firefighters, arriving within an approximate four-minute window, extinguished the fire rapidly in about five minutes, despite the flames being contained to a small apartment, according to KFOX-TV. Nine units and 25 firefighters were dispatched to the scene, representing a swift and forceful response, although one life could not be saved from the inferno's clutches.
The deceased individual, who has not been named pending notification of kin, was caught in a situation that unfolded in the dark and quiet hours when most find comfort in their abodes' shelter. As the fire grew in the one apartment, nearby residents also felt the sting of displacement, evacuating their homes as a precaution, as reported by KVIA.
