
In an alarming incident, the quiet morning of Woburn, Massachusetts, was disrupted when a man allegedly tried to detonate an explosive device at an Eastern Bank ATM. The Woburn Police Department, responding to reports of the blast, found the ATM on Mishawum Road damaged by what appeared to be the fallout of an explosive device. The event, occurring in the early hours of Thursday, instigated a swift response from law enforcement. "Upon arrival, officers discovered the drive through ATM sustained damage from what appears to be the result of an unknown destructive device or a pipe bomb," detailed a social media post from the Woburn Police Department.
Following the protocol for such threats, the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, and FBI Boston’s special agent bomb technicians were brought to the scene. The Woburn Police Chief, Brian McManus, indicated that, the individual responsible for this incident is still at large. However, he assured that "At this time, we do not believe there is a threat to public safety." Reflections on the dispersal of debris and the melting of parts of the ATM were captured in security images, leading to the release of a photo by Woburn Police Department of the suspect connected to the attempted explosion.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported despite the violent outburst which occurred around 4 a.m., making this a case of property damage with thankfully no physical harm to individuals. The site, now boarded up for security, signifies the shocking impact of the occurrence in a setting of everyday errands.
The authorities continue to seek the public's assistance in locating the suspect. According to a report by WHDH, "Woburn police released a security camera image of the man they are searching for who they say tried to blow up an Eastern Bank ATM in Woburn Thursday." Citizens with information are urged to come forward and help law enforcement officials in this ongoing investigation, which is jointly undertaken by the Woburn police and the FBI.
