
A violent occurrence disrupted the peace of Beale Street earlier this week, calling Memphis Police to action in response to an aggravated assault that left one man injured by gunfire. The incident unrolled on the night of Monday, September 1, according to the Memphis Police Department, near the bustling intersect of Beale Street and November 6th Street, around 10:15 p.m. The victim, who remains unnamed, claimed to have been in the proximity of an ongoing altercation, shortly before the harrowing sound of gunshots emerged; he didn't see the shooter but was struck several times nonetheless.
Investigators came upon a video which captures two male suspects, each armed and dangerous, appearing to operate with dismissive regard for the lives milling around them, and in a swift moment, one suspect extracted a handgun from a black backpack and fired the weapon while the second was observed passing an unknown item from a teal/blue backpack, one hand visibly on an AR pistol-style firearm as the camera recorded their deeds. Suspect #1 is described as a Black male, identified by short dreadlocks, donned in a white t-shirt, black jeans, and white tennis shoes; his accomplice, Suspect #2, matches the description of a Black male dressed in a white t-shirt with a noticeable graphic on the back, light-colored blue jeans, and, like his counterpart, white tennis shoes.
The details of this story bring an unsettling reminder of the challenges that face locales known for their vibrant night scenes not immune to abrupt acts of violence.
