In a move aimed to bolster the state's workforce and economic standing, Governor Katie Hobbs has named Mary Foote as the incoming Director for the Office of Economic Opportunity, as reported by the Arizona Governor's Office. Foote, who currently heads the Greater Arizona Development Authority (GADA), has been a pivotal figure in steering public infrastructure projects, particularly assisting rural and Tribal communities with increased access to investment capital. Her accomplishments include reinvigorating GADA and facilitating the issuance of $1.4 million in support for public works in towns like Superior, Winslow, and in Apache County.
Governor Hobbs acknowledged Foote's impactful career focused on securing sustainable jobs for Arizonans, and her appointment reflects confidence in her ability to further advance the Office's objectives, "Director Foote has dedicated her career to helping Arizonans gain access to family-sustaining jobs," she said, and her combined experience in workforce and economic development, along with her deep understanding of Arizona's workforce landscape, are seen as key assets that will drive the state's economy forward; this was articulated in a statement found on the official press release.
Foote, who has previously served as the CEO of Pipeline AZ and as a Vice President for the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, expressed gratitude for the new challenge ahead, "It’s a privilege to step into the Director position for the Office of Economic Opportunity," Foote told the Governor's Office. She is looking to not just continue, but build upon the successes to develop an inclusive, strong workforce and economy for the state.
An Arizona State University alum, Foote brings to her new role educational credentials that include a Bachelor's of Interdisciplinary Studies and a Masters in Public Administration.
