A routine traffic stop in Marysville led to a felony arrest after local police discovered drugs and paraphernalia in the vehicle of a 56-year-old man. According to a social media post by the Marysville Police Department, the driver, identified as William Chan, was pulled over for having a suspended license and was also found to be wanted on two misdemeanor warrants.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers unearthed $400 in cash, two digital scales, approximately 18 grams of crack cocaine, and drug paraphernalia. The presence of these items led to Chan's arrest on multiple felony charges. Chan, a repeat drug offender, is being held at the Yuba County Jail. His prior convictions mean he qualifies under Proposition 36, which could affect the legal proceedings.
Marysville PD's involvement originated from an Office of Traffic Safety grant, underscoring the often interlinked relationship between traffic enforcement and broader public safety efforts. Following the incident, the department reiterated its dedication to "keeping our community safe from dangerous narcotics," as mentioned in their social media post.
