A Maryville man with ties to the Aryan Nation has been convicted of stabbing three people at a Bearden bar on New Year's Day 2024. Identified as Shawn Edward Hatcher, 50, he was found guilty on charges including two counts of aggravated assault, one count of assault, and unlawful possession of a weapon, as reported by WATE.

During a two-day trial, evidence was presented that showed Hatcher had been aggressively approaching a woman at the Brickyard Bar and Grill on Homberg Drive, prompting her to ask Hatcher to stop touching her. When another woman intervened, asking him to leave the first woman alone, Hatcher reacted violently — punching and stabbing her, the office of Knox County District Attorney General Charme Allen disclosed. The incident escalated when two men attempted to intervene and, were also stabbed by Hatcher, who fled the scene, WBIR noted.

The victims managed to drive themselves to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment, and their identification of Hatcher led to his arrest near the bar a short time later. "At sentencing, my office will ask the Judge to send this repeat offender back to prison," DA Charme Allen said in a statement obtained by WBIR. Prosecutors said Hatcher faces six to 10 years in prison for each aggravated assault charge due to his prior criminal record.
