Residents of Lānaʻi are about to get a taste of the government up close and personal. Mayor Richard Bissen is reviving his "Holomua Kākou" initiative, which translates to "Moving Forward Together," by taking his county government team directly to the local communities of Maui County. Starting tomorrow, Mayor Bissen and his staff will be available at the ILWU Union Hall in Lānaʻi City to engage with community members, as reported by Maui County's official website.
Both days, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Office of the Mayor personnel will be ready to field questions, and assist residents with county-related matters at 840 Ilima Ave. And for those in need of vision care, there's good news: Project Vision is offering free vision screenings and free over-the-counter reading glasses, a service that kicks off tomorrow from 10:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the same venue.
Tomorrow evening, a "talk story" session hosted by Mayor Bissen will take place, providing a platform for dialogue between local residents and the Mayor from 5:30 to 7 p.m. It's a unique opportunity for the community to directly voice concerns and connect with their local government leader in an informal setting.
The following day isn't just a repeat of handshakes and hellos, there's a concrete educational component involved, too. Grant workshops, designed to sharpen general writing skills needed for securing funds will be hosted at the Council District Office at 814 Fraser Ave from noon to 2 p.m. These sessions, crucial for local organizations seeking to navigate the grant process, will be facilitated by Chief of Staff Cynthia Lallo and Budget Director Lesley Milner.
